Rx Fire and Cultural Burn Trainings

Register for TERA’s Rx Fire and Cultural Burn Training Courses,
and learn how to bring good fire back to our lands!

This Fall, the Tribal EcoRestoration Alliance will offer a series of trainings as part of the Lake Cal-TREX that will teach our community how to implement prescribed and cultural fire. Folks without experience, as well as those with experience or prior qualifications, are welcome to apply.

If you’re unfamiliar with TREX, PLEASE READ THE OVERVIEW OF THE LAKE CAL-TREX.

These trainings focus on learning about Good Fire through an ecocultural lens and are designed for local, Native community members in Lake and Mendocino Counties, though individuals of all backgrounds and from different regions are welcome to apply. Please note that space for each training is limited, and we will prioritize Native applicants, as well as those who submit earlier during the application period.

Upcoming Trainings:

  • Cultural Fire, Wednesday Sept 6th (1-Day Course)

  • RT-130 Fireline Refresher, Saturday Sept 23rd (prerequisite: FFT2) (1-Day Course)

  • Basic 32 Firefighter Type 2 (FFT2), Monday-Friday, Sept 25th-29th (5-Day course)

  • S-219 Firing Operations, Tuesday-Wednesday, Oct 3rd-4th (prerequisite: FFT2) (2-Day course)

  • Tactical Fire Training, Tuesday-Wednesday, Oct 17th-18th - (2-Day course) STRONGLY RECOMMENDED

If you are not accepted to the FFT2 or unable to attend, you can complete your Firefighter Type 2 coursework online. You will still need to attend a field day and complete the pack test and shelter deployment to qualify as a FFT2.

We will be offering the opportunity to take a pack test and shelter deployment during our RT-130 (Sept 23) and during the Tactical Drills Training (Oct 17-18). Space is limited, so the ability to complete these requirements through us is not guaranteed. Please let us know if you are interested in doing your coursework online and fulfilling these additional requirements with us by emailing asagala@tribalecorestoration.org.

Notification of acceptance into courses will go out in mid-August.

Upon acceptance, non-Native participants are highly encouraged to contribute a sliding scale donation of $25-$150 per day of training.
Links to donate will be provided in acceptance emails.

If you have questions about the training, please call (707) 278-8019 or Contact Us Via Email.
